Colorful Convenience

Stemming from a desire to make a time-lapse style video, I was inspired to create a stylized render and push the bounds of my stylistic abilities. I completed the texturing using Substance Designer and Substance Painter and created all of the textures from scratch with the final look in mind. I utilized a lot of pastel colors in the textures and then lit the scene utilizing hypersaturated lights. I leaned heavily on the ACES workflow to allow me to hone in on the exact colors and brightness levels of each light. Rendering a plethora of AOV’s was really crucial as well, as I was able to push each element in comp to the look I wanted. Lastly, this is my first return back into utilizing real-life camera footage to derive the camera animation from, because I wanted to experiment with the contrast of a hyper-stylized environment paired with a hyper-realistic camera movement.

Progression

It took several adjustments in order to achieve the more stylized look I was going for. As you can see I actually started with a more realistic render, and quickly started pushing the colors of the lights and the textures as well as adding custom modeled assets.
